So my roommate and I where checking out different things to enhance our pathfinder experience and we stumbled upon a site called rare elements foundry. While drooling over all the cool stuff we noticed a set called elemental coins featuring different elementally focused creatures on the coin faces. This brought about a flurry of ideas centralized on a base concept: A caster class that uses tokens imbued with an elementals power, once the token was activated it would unleash its effect and be consumed in the process requiring a new pact and token if similar effects where desired later on. To gain pacts the user would have to bargin with the creature whose power they would want to borrow. Once both party's agreed to the terms a enchanted catalyst would be presented, this would be something like a small glass vial and stopper or a specially minted coin, with different levels of value for use with higher classed skills. Aside from that we have no clue where to go next with it

I think this is an awesome idea that adds a new dimension to the game. I would make sure however that you arent playing with a party of aggro orc beserkers or something because that would obviously nerf your character. Alternatively, however, if the elemental focus is lessened and it can be made with more normally animals, you could couple this with an animal companion/familiar and have them unleash the power of the wild, and if you were willing to make pacts with your party members, then you could use coins that would take on aspects of them/their race (ex. orc beserker- rage of the beserker- fear spell). More powerful creatures could create higher level spells. Also, I feel like this would be perfect for any interaction with gods/demon lords. Thats just me spit-balling here

Sounds interesting. I like the idea of making player roleplay pacts that they have to keep track of. However, i would make some sort of stipulation regarding conditions that have to be fulfilled. Maybe a particular fire spirit is only willing to help if it is against goblins, or an earth elemental charging a fee in gems for every time he is called upon. That way it keeps the power from scaling limitlessly. Also, if they made a pact with their companions, maybe it would require the companion to sacrifice the ability that is being channeled through the coin while it was being channeled. Perhaps it requires a particular sort of item, one that is not easily crafted, thereby limiting the number of "spells" the character can have prepared at one time. I could see a lot of potential with a class, or even just an in campaign system allowing this.

I would also make these abilities fairly powerful, to reflect the effort most characters would have to go through to get them- otherwise, they'll just play Wizards.
